Job Overview:

BridgePoint Bible Church is seeking a Lead Pastor to provide spiritual leadership, working closely with elders, pastors, and staff. The Lead Pastor will be the primary preacher, delivering expository sermons and leading the church’s vision and ministries. Responsibilities include managing church staff, overseeing ministry plans, shepherding the congregation, and collaborating on strategic leadership initiatives. The ideal candidate will have significant ministry experience, strong theological knowledge, and team leadership skills. They must demonstrate a growing relationship with Christ, align with our church’s doctrinal beliefs, and be committed to discipling and mentoring others. An M.Div. is preferred.

Job Description:

We are seeking a candidate who could serve BridgePoint as its Lead Pastor. In the role of a Lead Pastor, the ideal candidate would help BridgePoint fulfill its vision by working closely with the elders, pastors, and staff to develop, implement, and evaluate ministry plans. The Lead Pastor would serve as the primary preacher and help shepherd the membership of BridgePoint. The Lead Pastor would oversee the management of the church’s staff and ensure that the church’s ministries and operations are running effectively. As a result, the Lead Pastor will exercise spiritual leadership and direction, while working with the pastors, elders, deacons and staff to ensure that the church is being equipped, discipled, maturing, reaching out and administratively and organizationally effective. The ideal candidate would have the capability to envision, build, gather and motivate teams) within the church family to accomplish our mission “to make disciples of Jesus from all the nations.”

Primary Responsibilities:

The ideal Lead Pastor candidate would fulfill his role and serve the church in three primary ways:

Teaching:

• Serve as the central Sunday preacher, primarily delivering expository sermons through books of the Bible while balancing topical, theological and visionary sermons as needed.
• Delegate regular preaching responsibilities to other qualified men based on gifting and needs.
• Oversee the invitation of guest preachers.
• Plan an annual expositional preaching calendar that feeds the church a full and balanced diet of expository preaching through the Bible while bal topical, theological and visionary direction as needed
• Teach at other special events, forums, classes, and ministries as time allows.

Shepherding the Flock:

• Pursue biblically healthy relationships among the elders, staff, and congregation.
• Encourage and provided counsel to individuals and families in the church body as the schedule permits.
• Collaborate on a shepherding and pastoral care ministry and provide visitation and pastoral care as schedule permits.
• Conduct or delegate baptisms, communion, weddings, funerals, and infant presentations.


Strategic Vision & Leadership:

• Collaborate with the elders to determine God’s direction for each ministry season to achieve a clear vision, shared values, and shared strategies.
• Collaborate with the elders to ensure that each seasonal emphasis is clearly communicated at every level of the church.
• Oversee ministry leaders ensuring their alignment with our vision, mission and values.
• Disciple leaders in the church through identifying gifts, sharing responsibility, and intentionally investing and mentoring members of the church body.
• Work with BridgePoint’s Missions Committee to ensure a strategic focus on missions through our mission’s partnerships.

The Lead Pastor would be directly responsible for the following items:

• Oversee, develop, and encourage the staff pastors and ensure proper oversight of the church’s staff.
• Ensure the management of staff plans and ministries are in alignment with the vision emphases for each ministry season.
• Work in coordination with the elders to ensure that ministry leaders receive support in designing and implementing their next steps. This includes working closely with the worship leader to craft, lead, and evaluate biblical worship services.
• Ensure an effective HR performance management system is in place for all church staff. This will include timely formal annual objective-setting sessions and end-of year written reviews, including regular check-in sessions and development conversations.

Other:

• The ideal candidate would also be available to address unanticipated unmet ministry needs that impact the life and well-being of BridgePoint. Examples might include the following: building campaign, missions trips, consideration of new ministries that utilize our facilities.
• The elders may further expand the job description to cover other areas of ministry as mutually agreed.

Candidate Profile:

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for Lead Pastor of BridgePoint:

Education:

Fluency in Scripture and theology is required. An M.Div. or equivalent degree is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrate significant ministry experience serving in a church
• Become a member of BridgePoint Bible Church
• Pass a standard background check on an annual basis
• Have substantial levels of theological and practical training
• Have computer skills that allow for use of standard office software and the internet

The Lead Pastor must exhibit:
• Strong, personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ that is producing a maturing servant and shepherd’s heart that loves the people of God and has a heart for the lost.
• Team-oriented leader who builds and motivates others, focusing on the good of the church family and can inspire others to work together to achieve organizational excellence.
• A detailed understanding of Scripture and wholehearted agreement with BridgePoint’s doctrinal statement.
• A capacity to collaboratively lead with fellow elders in an elder-led church, demonstrating a high receptivity to feedback from fellow elders and pastoral staff.
• A willingness and ability to develop growing relationships in the body.
• And promote the Values of BridgePoint and encourages an increasing biblical family culture.
• If married, he has a supportive spouse who has a vested interest in both the marriage and the ministry, through which the relationship demonstrates a healthy marriage partnership.
• Creative, pragmatic problem solver who is energized by challenges, who changes and identifies untapped opportunities on which to capitalize within the organization.
• The ability to work collaboratively with other pastors.
• The proven ability to balance church and family life.
• Strong leadership skills in managing and discipling other ministry staff personnel.
